Day One Round-up: Yours Truly, Subjectively

Vikram Phadnis

Payal Says
High Point: He had some interesting color schemes with the moss green and copper instead of the traditional silver/golds.

Low point: Dissappointed that he didn't do more with those colors scheme. The silhouettes were unimpressive. A big letdown compared to his last collection.

Priyanka Says
High Point: I was half expecting him to get some starlet to walk his finale look but when that didn't happen, he scored a major point with me.

Low Point: Considering that this is a fashion show, just the fact that for me the high point was thaat, totally sums up the low notes. What a meh show. Unimaginative and rehashed looks.

Mandira Wirk

Payal Says
High Point: NONE!

Low Point: Wish she would give up on "Lurex"(that metallic material she is so trying hard to push)!

Priyanka Says
High Point: Enjoyed the houndstooth pieces.

Low Point: But those houndstooth pieces could have come from anywhere. The handkerchief hems, bubble hems, puffy hems, all a bit tired with no inventive twist at all. And the 'metallic' was so overdone.

Payal Says
High Point: Some of the sheath dresses have potential.

Low Point: A busy collection with too much going on. Frills, Belts, Embroidery don't always gel together!

Priyanka Says
High Point:Very avant-garde and street chic. I can actually see young women in Ginza or Shanghai or Tsim Sha Tsui actually digging those clothes, especially those socks! And if thats the market, then it indeed is a high point!

Low Point: Inspiration was lost in translation. 'Lure of the orient' was bedazzled by Spanish influences clearly seen in the floral motifs and embroideries... Did he mean 'Lure of the orient' to the Spaniards in the colonial times?

Payal Says
High Point: Suneet Verma needs to take a few tips from this collection as to how to make lots of accessories work together! If, the "Gaaon Ki Goris" went the "Couture" way, maybe this is how it would look like! ;)

Low Point: The hair and the accessories take away from the clothes. Me wonders, take those elements away, and would this collection look as good as it does?

Priyanka Says
High Point: I absolutely adored this collection, how fabulous was it to see myriad of colors after many, many metallic looks, collection after collection. Yes I know its Fall, but its also India, where bar a few places, lets face it 'Winter' is what it is. The embroidery, the embellishment, it all just worked. If the flea market at Anjuna went "couture", this is how it'd be!

Low Point: I wish she had given the clothes a chance to shine by themselves. It was way over-styled. Between the jewelry, the bags, the stoles etc, the over-accessorizing got quite overwhelming. She needs to learn to edit herself.

Gauri and Nainika

Payal Says
High Point: One of the few designers that are very minimal in their designs. Who needs prints, embellishments, when you can do so much just with fabric!

Low Points: But, it seems like we have seen these designs before.

Priyanka Says
High Point: The gowns were beautifully tailored, minimal in their structure and understated in their appeal.

Low Point: It did seem a little too safe though and sometimes it did feel like we've seen it before...

Namrata Joshipura

Payal Says
High Point: A safe collection with nothing over the top.

Low Point: Sometimes being safe can work against you.

Priyanka Says
High Point: Extremely commercial.

Low Point: Grey. And not just the color palette. When there was color, it was nothing to write home about.

Lecoanet & Hemant

Payal Says
High Point: Evening Wear!

Low point: The V necks and fur jacket were too run of the mill stuff!

Priyanka Says
High Point: Think plaid, think Canadian lumberjacks? Not the way this was done. And some of those evening looks, goddess draped ones really worked.

Low Point: The knitwear didn't work. A little too regular stuff.

Ranna Gill

Payal Says
High Point: The plain dresses with the jeweled necklines.

Low Point: Prints with the overdone jeweled necklines.

Priyanka Says
High Point: Loved the use of embellishment. And the colors were fabulous. The use of cutouts too were great (even though its Fall), very resonant of Temperley!

Low Point: The prints were overdone. Who needs a print AND embellishment??!

Manoviraj Khosla

Payal Says
High Point: Some of the blazers were offbeat. Not your same old black blazer which is refreshing.

Low point: Clientele might include Salman Khan and Salman Khan wannabes!

Priyanka Says
High Point: Some pieces were well crafted and very trendy, suitable for the urban, and I hate to use the word, metrosexual.

Low Point: Might make good editorial spreads but I doubt commercial viability, some of those pieces were just too over the top.

Rohit Bal

Payal Says
High Point: None

Low Point: With a theme like "Ashta Dhahtu", a shame there wasn't more to it.

Priyanka Says
High Point: High drama. There was color, there was irreverence, there were unexpected plays on textures and silhouettes, and all came off very avant-garde.

Low Point: A bit too hung-over from the last collection. The 'inspiration' was lost in the drama. The creative noise drowned out the the creative aesthetic.
