WLIFW: Tarun Tahiliani
Tarun Tahiliani's show had a bit of everything. The collection was swathed in different colors as varied as reds, purples, greys, blacks, beiges and creams and in different textures, tulle, net, tweed, velvet or his signature chiffons. The expected craftsmanship of using embroideries and other work in traditional Indian techniques was there too.
The menswear saw mostly Indian formal wear but the real show-stealers were the women's designs. The collection swayed between Indian and Western ensembles but it was easy to easy that the Indian silhouettes retained the western influences in their clean, elegant and minimal design.

The Great Indian Wedding

Tarun Tahiliani recently showcased his collection designed exclusively for the Johnnie Walker Classic 2008 opening/welcome dinner titled ‘The Great Indian Wedding’ in Delhi.
It was typical Tahiliani, beautiful clothes, exquisite craftsmanship, but same old jewelled accents. Time to perhaps re-invent?

Katrina (Un)Covered

Seems like the only one giving Kareena a run for her money is Ms. Kaif. Katrina is featured on the Verve February issue wearing a Tarun Tahiliani outfit from his Spring 2008 collection. Don't see much photoshop on this cover happening? What say you?

Mehr In Tarun Tahiliani

We were so distracted by Mehr's striking collarbone that we totally ignored the outfit that she was wearing! Well, now that we are not so distracted, just wanted to let you all know that the former model was wearing a Tarun Tahiliani creation at the SET Stardust Awards. The woman makes anything look good!

The Ethereal Toga: A Faceoff
Runway or Red Carpet? Which of the two was more oomph'ed up you think?
For me, the pick was easy, I chose the Lanvin dress! Simple and chic, it sparkled with understated elegance. The blush hues of Tahiliani could have worked wonders but that pleated extra under the asymmetrical mid-leg hemline just takes away all the magic!

Madhuri On Verve
What do you think of Mads on the december issue of Verve?
Here is what we think:
Payal says, "Love the outfit. Love the red lips. Something wrong with her eye make up though. Also, the body looks too big for the face. Photoshop at work, yet again?"
Priyanka says, "The red lipstick just doesn't work. Maybe its the Dita Von Teese, Scarlett Johanson, even Deepika Padukone hangover but it just doesn't work for Madhuri. Her skin is too pale and and the make-up ages her! And I agree with Payal, way too severely photoshopped! All in all, a flop cover for me!"
What do you think???

Don't miss the signature Tarun Tahiliani scalloped lace trim on Mads that we saw on the runway at the Chivas Fashion Tour.

Winter White

Who says you can't wear white after Labor day? Look at Neetu Kappor née Singh! She paired a printed tunic from Tarun Tahiliani with white pants and a white Chanel bag! The white balances all that print rather well, reaching that overall effect of 'me-likey'!
Don't be afraid of wearing 'print'. The key is to team one busy piece of clothing with everything else that is subdued and subtle so that it not only balances the overall impression but also nicely accents the print! After all, noone really wants to go looking like a tablecloth!

A Grecian Ode

Source
There were a lot of Grecian influences on the runways this season (in Spring/Summer 2008 collections) and the 'Toga' was most apparant. Why, the fashion doyenne herself, Priya Tanna, editor of Vogue India, was seen flaunting the silhouette in a Tarun Tahiliani created ensemble, few months ago at the Vogue India launch. (picture, above)
A Toga is essentially a loose flowing outer garment, which in the ancient times, was worn by Romans, usually, made of a single piece of cloth that covered the entire body leaving the right arm bare. And, most designers in their collections re-interpreted this flowing silhouette which really is a very flattering drape.
Here's just a quick peek at different designers', different takes...

Aishwarya In Tarun Tahiliani
We can't clear the rumors about her pregnancy!

What we can tell you though is that for her first trip back on the ramp after many many years, the actress donned a blue Tarun Tahiliani lehenga! Check out the same lehenga in pink right behind the designer!

Shilpa Shetty At A Dom Event
Here's Shilpa Shetty in Paris, at the unveiling of the Dom Pérignon Oenotheque 1993, dressed in a Tarun Tahiliani dress.

I can't say much except the fact that I absolutely hate the dress. Its so tacky. And the same old jewelled accent that Tahiliani has been doing for ages now. You think he'll ever get over it?

Day 2: Tarun Tahiliani
What does one expect from a master couturier such as Tarun Tahiliani? Glam? Creativity and Imagination? Flowy and Sensual silhouettes? Beautiful fits and Structured clothes? And a dash of Panache perhaps? Of course. And he delivers. His collection was exactly what I expected it to be.
I have so many favorite pieces in this collection. For instance, how fabulous is the sari in white with a halter necked, sleeveless vest that buttons on the outside? Or that long flowy white kurta/tunic with the Grecian chord detailing and the churidaar! Beautiful! Am glad he moved away from bejewelling his clothes to actually using them as a print, digitally transferred am assuming! I loved how that effect looks on the tunic when paired with the churidaar!
Of course, the Jodhpurs made an appearance. I don't see how practical they ever are for non-derby wear, but there you have it! Jodhpurs made an appearance even in the Ashish Soni collection in the NY Fashion Week! Hmm.
And just when I was heaving a sigh of relief that thankfully this year, as far as the shows go till now, everyone strayed away from having Bollywood celebs get on the runway for them, Tarun Tahiliani goes and has Shilpa Shetty do exactly that for him! We'l just allow him that I suppose, since she has been a muse and graced his show last time around too! And she totally worked the runway!
Her outfit was a shimmering work of gold, though a dress, styled around the idea of a sari! She reminded me of an Egyptian princess, she was totally channeling Cleopatra, methinks!
The collection gets a thumbs-up! Masterfully crafted and effortlessly excecuted.

The pictures above are from the archives of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and I thought it'd be appropriate to revisit them, just this one time, considering Fashion Week is but a few hours away! (From the top: A model for Manish Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty for Tarun Tahiliani, Ridhima Kapoor for Surily Goel)
