Art Donovan designed this lamp called the Siddhartha Pod Lantern, his first in a style known as Steampunk which combines technology with Victorian sensibilities.

This lamp crafted from solid brass, copper and mahogany, stands over four feet tall and sells for (gasp) $23,000!!

Spotlight: Anupama

I recently found this line of home collection by Anupama Swaminadhan and it has the most beautiful line of cushions, fabrics, stoles etc..

The pillows are all hand-painted using vegetable and mineral dyes, and, 'Kalamkari' on those pillows looks so good... I especially love the more traditional design-form pieces and the ones with mythological narratives depicted on those fabrics. Because the execution is so modern even when the art-form itself is ancient and traditional, the result is quite contemporary and chic!

Where's Your Bling?

Bling can go onto the strangest things, whether its on the smallest and cheapest (the shuffle) from the ipod family, tipping its price to $40,000 or on a handbag made with leather thats infused with 18k gold! There's a commode that can bedazzle you or the toaster that can toast with the glimmer of a crystal! There's of course the Playstation controller in solid white gold and diamonds, but what really takes the cake, are those toothpick sleeves which are diamond encrusted! Really, bling goes on everywhere and anywhere!!

The Good, Good Earth

I absolutely adore The Good Earth store in Khan Market, Delhi. They have the most amazing collection of silk cushions (among other things)!

I saw these most amazing long and narrow silk cushions with a print that was very reminiscent of Warhol-pop-culture-kitsch! They had these cushions with multiple turban clad, mustached men or ones with mughal era/courtesan dancers in those Warhol'esque, multiple color, pop prints! Absolutely fabulous I tell you! There has never been a shortage of Asian inspired textiles when it comes to decorating a home and there have always been a myriad of options to choose from, whether its Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel or even Etro. And, one such Indian inspired collection I recently came across, was at Bloomingdales.

'Raj' is a bamboo/cotton bedding line with intricate patterns and beautiful designs from Natori. I particularly like the long and narrow, rectangular cushion/pillow. 'Sleeping-in' just a tad longer, gets easier and easier!

Sabyasachi Going The Tao Way

Just a few weeks ago, Bombay Dyeing unveiled its latest collection, 'Tao' designed by Sabyasachi, which inspired by the Oriental philosophy of 'Taoism', goes onto recreate that same vibe and design sensibility onto home linens!

The collection consists of an entire range of linens (sheets, comforters, towels, robes etc) and though a little pricey compared to what you can get in the market for the same, the design and quality make up for it, I hear!

Doorway To Nostalgia

I get nostalgic pretty easily.. sometimes its a rainy evening or a whiff of a perfume, sometimes, something I've eaten, or a rarely spoken phrase, sometimes its a song and sometimes a scene from a movie...it could be a mail, a call, a card, a letter.. and then sometimes, its furniture..

Well, with furniture that has never actually happened before, but when I saw this by Haldane Martin, it took me back to days that can only be categorized as, 'way-back-when', to my grandfather's house where furniture like this was all over the place!

Atleast the chair anyway! Y'all know what am talking about?

Not all of his collection got me nostalgic though! Some of these pieces are really contemporary, modern and very, very minimal! And, really pretty cool.

On an aside, Ikat is a style of weaving that uses a dyeing process similar to tie-dye before the threads are woven, to create a pattern or design. Ikat means "to tie" or "to bind" in the Malay language.

India, Japan and several South-East Asian countries have cultures with long histories of Ikat production (among other things), and Double Ikats can still be found in India, Guatemala, Japan and the Indonesian islands of Bali and Kalimantan!

In fact, a Double Ikat from Gujrat, used to be exported to Indonesia for the use of the royal families. And if you were to look, the striking similarities between Double Ikats produced in Bali, Indonesia and those in Gujrat are hard to miss.

Oh, and the Double Ikat from Gujrat? Also known as Patola. Ring a bell?

This month's Elle Decor had a multi-page spread on Mumbai and just as I was thinking 'yay' and what could be next, I spy Etro's home collection, one with many different looks but of which, one collection was named Assam and the other Pondicherry!

Nothing makes me happier than drinking well made coffee in a cheery mug first thing in the morning and then proceed to properly wake up! And I have had favorite mugs, right since, forever! What can I say, they make me happy!
