The Fashion Police Is Out Again

I absolutely hate it when siblings dress alike. I hate it even more when couples dress alike. You know, the kind who wear matching tees and go riding tandem cycles!! Eeecks. But at this point, I'l even take that looking at the way Salman and Katrina dressed for two seperate events and really, there is just no excuse for it!

Just look at the way Mr. Khan dressed for a preview of Pradeep Verma's paintings at the Suchitrra Art Gallery. The over-bleached hair, that same ol' Ed Hardy tee and those tattered jeans! Geez. Unless you are an Abercrombie model, no one and I mean no one should be dressing in jeans that tatterred! As far as camouflage goes, unless you are in the military, live in a trailor park or are a certifiable redneck, please steer clear off of them!

And as far as Ms. Kaif goes, boooring!! There she was at the unveiling of Philips' diamond-encrusted Ambilight Flat TV looking monochromatic and washed out! She is beautiful, sure, but oh so yawn-worthy too! And that transluscent blouse?? That grey dress over it?? Over her denims?? And that frilly long scarf detail on her collar!! No No No. Layering works wonders, but clearly, in some cases, absolutely not!

Who Dressed Worse?

Below are pictures of Divya Khosla and Vidya Balan at the Bhool Bhulaiyaa press meet (left and right, respectively) and its hard to judge who was worse off! While Khosla's was downright blinding, gaudy and loud, not that I expected much else, but, Balan's look was just ugly and dated and its unforgivable that she works on looking that way when she has such an old-world, classic, conventional charm that she could use to her advantage!

Udita Does Bad Fashion

Thats Udita Goswami at the press conference of Aggar in Bombay and where do I even start with that outfit? How wrong is it? I just want to yank that flower off that collar! The pitiful thing is, it doesn't even look like anything, just a couple of odds and ends sewn together! And those pearls? Doesn't really go now does it? While the whole strand of pearls being a classic and can't go wrong with it is a given, Ms. Goswami just showed us, how not to! Oh wait, since there is pearl or pearl-like detailing on the hemline, on the sleeve and elsewhere, maybe she thought she couldn't go wrong! But people, there is something called over-doing.

The dress looked washed out, over-detailed and she just plain looked poorly styled.

As someone famous would say, "Egad"!!

And here is Gul Panag again on my radar, for reasons not so rosy!

Ms. Panag was at the Audio Launch of Manorama Six Feet under, working the bare midriff look, yet again! Is it just me or she looks like she is out and about in her night clothes? So ok, we get it, you have a flat stomach and great abs, but there are better ways to drive that point home. There have got to be. And that peachy excuse of an outfit just won't fly!

She is a such a beautiful woman and its such a shame that she keeps popping up on my radar!

And now compare that to the lacy, whimsical dress that Charlize Theron wore for the premiere of her new movie, The Valley Of Elah at the Venice Film Festival!

The colors here too are muted and understated and the dress has a flimsy, transluscent feel which gives it that ultra feminine and flirty, dreamlike quality! Charlize's little-off-white-dress also has ribbon detailing but thats where all similarities end. Ms. Theron's dress was at a whole other level and absolutely stunned!

More Burnt-out Fashion At Aag

Maybe they didn't get the memo, but aren't premieres a formal occassion? Isn't that a place where you gussy up, so that, when I look at the pictures of you, I want to go watch the movie, just a tad more? Sushmita obviously missed the boat, in an uninspired see through shirt! But somebody please tell me what Gul Panag was thinking dressed like that at RGV's Aag premiere?

The whole midriff look works when you are lunching with your girlfriends or at a beach. Just about anywhere else, its tacky. And the tee, oh boy! While am all for pop-kitsch, that wouldn't have been my first pick! And you know whats coming next.. The sequinned gold/pink undertone bolero. Two words: Doesn't Work.

All in all, an outfit put together in two seconds flat when blindfolded. Kudos.

The picture above is of Tanushree Dutta at the Gitanjali-Wimbledon Tie-up and at the far far far end of my style icon list!

Do stylists have their own backdoor celebrity styling razzies, that they actually covet? How else can you explain poor Tanushree Dutta being turned out by her stylist looking like this? She looks like shiny leprechaun gold, that wandered far away from the pot at the end of the rainbow!

So, gold is in. As is metallic. But Ms. Dutta never heard of a nuance called 'subtlety'. Nor the adage that 'a little goes a long way'! And someone, quickly explain the pouch! Please.

Actually, don't. Lets just pretend we never saw this.

Oh Kareena, Say It Isn't So!

Oh Kareena, all that money to spend and all those resources at hand, and not one stylist that can do their job? It must take special prowess to really look that bad. I met a poodle and she wants her collar back. The drag queen was asking for her make-up bag back and that dress! That dress! Where do I even start? Its chic on crack!

Here's how you do 'Style' wrong. You have deep red/brown highlights in your hair and yet you choose to wear an electric blue dress that not only clashes but also does nothing for you. And then you sip on, what I think might be your thirtieth vodka for the night, because there really is no other explaination, and come up with blue-green eye shadow. Dollops of it. And then you think, oh wait, but I need color, so you paint your nails scarlet red! And while you are looking at yourself in the mirror, twirling this way and that, you think a girl can't step out without some bling of course! Who has time to scrimage for jewellery, there's Fifi around, lets yank off her dog collar and put it to better use!! Oh, and get somebody to spell Globus, just in case people get dazzled and forget why you are admist them in the first place!
