Bolly Bleh!

Kate Spade introduced two new bags under the collection 'Bollywood'...and, (no prize for guessing) I absolutely don't care for it all!

It supposedly draws on the "industry's dazzling palettes and unabashed glitz with a touch of camp" but I fail to see any of the delectable kitsch that defines Bollywood!!

The bags come in soft patent calfskin, and in cheery neon colors that would've been perfect for spring but even that does nothing for me!

I seriously fail to see 'Bollywood' and they say whats in a name!

The sequinned Chanel bag has to be one of my least favorite bags from Chanel. It was another attempt at updating and adding a twist to a classic Chanel flap bag which just doesn't work for me!

Front Row Fashion

Spotted Ridhima Kapoor sitting Front Row at Vikram Phadnis' show during WLIFW. Keeping with the trend, she was dressed in a floral outfit (big for Spring) and was seen carrying a classic Bottega Veneta bag.

Bag Chic!!

Spotted Nandita Mahtani at the unveiling of Lakme Fashion Week's designers and sponsors. And while she was as usual impeccably turned out, it was hard not to notice the Bottega Veneta Cabat that she was carrying that almost made us skip a beat!

Its no secret we love the Birkin but a close second is Bottega Veneta for its sophisticated, understated, timeless appeal, and it always surprises me when I see people carry the over-logo'fied junk out there over the more understated yet way more chic choices. Both Payal and I own Bottegas (not the Cabat though, but it sure is on our wish list!) and don't think we ever, ever get tired of them!

Spotted Dimple Kapadia and Laila Khan Rajpal at the Art Expo India Exhibition with their respective Prada and Gucci bags.

Dimple seems to have quite a thing for exotics, fox fur trimmed bags, YSL Mombasa, and now a bag that looks like a wet puppy on her arm.

Ekta Raheja has one of these in white and now spotted Sophie Chaudhary at the Araaish event with the Chanel! Also seen was Juhi Chawla with her Lady Dior!! (Oh, and if you are curious, the unidentified lady in the centre with Juhi Chawla is carrying the Fendi Baulotto Bag!!)

Hoping To Distract

First, she carries a glorious new Salina GM dressed in Juicy Couture sweats, and seriously, who wears sweats to an art exhibition??!! And now, we spotted Bhumika Puri once again carrying a fabulous bag, this time a patent black Chanel at the Indian Oaks event. Except, this time too, she teamed her fabulous bag with that hideous, printed, ruffled excuse of a top!

Is she hoping her bags would distract us from the clothes? It almost worked. Only, almost.

The Ballooning Trend

Summer of last year saw Cameron Diaz totting the fabulous and oh-so-happy Marni balloon bag in yellow, and its popularity seems to be riding just as high even now! And most designers seem to have caught onto the shape... look at the Balenciaga and Gucci bags from their spring 08 collections...

While I like it, its a great casual, day-bag, the only thing I find inconvenient about this shape is that anything you put in the bag seems to collect at the bottom and it takes major rummaging to find something! But then again, maybe its just me!

Book Launch Launches Bag'mania..

.. for us anyway!

The book launch in question was the photo-essay book about Sunil and Nargis Dutt written by their daughters Priya and Namrata. As usual, not only were the who's who of Mumbai present but also making an appearance were their bags!

We (Well Heeled and I) couldn't stop "oooh-ing" the uber-expensive Bottega Veneta Lizard clutch carried by Gauri Khan. (Life is really good when you are SRK's wife!)

Chloé has a new bag out, the Chloé Kerala leather shoulder bag and it looks pretty good! It has a nice yellow'ish leather, the shoulder straps look comfortable and the gold hardware is pretty much the standard Chloé fare. While I like the bag, its shape etc, I could do without the equestrian themed charms! And the whole Kerala reference zoomed past me...

I love trends just as much as the next fashionista in line for her latte, but lets face it, not all of us are blessed with paychecks that allow us to follow every fad, every season.. so we do what we must, pick and choose, and always, always, have a keen eye on the lookout for the next best buy!

The Black And White Of It All

How can one bag, the same identical bag, in two different colors, evoke two totally different reactions? I'll tell you how.. just look at the Biba Patent Bag and let the reactions stumble out of you.

I absolutely hate the Black Patent Biba bag; the patent leather is way too shiney and tacky looking and that big, gold 'B' is absolutely obnoxious.



However, look at the same bag in white.. it is actually pretty muted, understated, and that big 'B' in silver, gives it just the right amount of funk to make it stand out, in a good way. I have no real complaints about the bag's shape itself, and the size looks good. The White Patent Bag seems a good way to do a trend without being a style don't.

And currently, marked down from $745.00 to $484.00, it sure is kind on the wallet.
